Starting Strength, Workout 13

Evening workout again
  • warmup:   5 minutes rowing machine
  • Full squat:  several warmup sets, 3×5 205lbs
  • Bench Press:  several warmup sets, 3×5 – 115 lbs
  • Deadlift:  several warmups sets, 1×5 – 255 lbs
Was able to hit all my weights again.  I had to use the power rack for most sets of squats and felt a little uneasy there, so I might have been going too shallow.  Last set was good, but I could feel a hitch on the way up so I’m not sure how much longer I’ll continue with linear gains (but at least I hit 1x BW before the hitch).  Deadlift felt very heavy, but I switched to alternating grip and that helped quite a lot!

  • squat:  several warmup sets, then 3×5 @195
  • Press:  several warmup sets,  3×5 @ 80 lbs
  • Power Clean:  several warmup sets, 5×3 @ 70
I am going to at least start looking for some coaching across the board on these lifts.  As things get heavier it is obviously more and more important to have good form.

Outdoor game, I played a good chunk of the first half but then not so much in the second half.  Still a lot of running.

  • rowing for warmup – 5 minutes
  • squat:  several warmup sets, then 3×5 @175
  • Press:  several warmup sets,  3×5 @ 75 lbs
  • Power Clean:  several warmup sets, 5×3 @ 65
I could still use some work on power cleans, but I was moving a lightly weighted bar without much trouble.  Just feels like my coordination is way off & that there are pauses and hitches that should be there.  Squats are definitely starting to get heavy, but I’m also getting reasonably close to 1xBW which is kinda cool!

  • Bench Press:  several warmup sets, 3×5 – 105 lbs
  • Deadlift:  several warmups sets, 1×5 – 215 lbs
Was able to hit all my weights again.  I wound up accidentally increasing my bench press to 105 instead of sticking with my original progression but I could still work with it so I’ll likely just keep going at that point in my progress next time.
